Dallas Area Leaders Prepare for Storms

Dallas County Leaders Hold EF4 Tornado Response Training Session

Dallas County leaders hosted the largest severe weather training session in North Texas history this week. The training aimed to teach emergency responders and city officials what to do when deadly weather strikes. Their main focus was an EF4 tornado, like the one that hit Dallas County in 2015. The tornado ripped apart parts of Rowlett, Garland, Desoto, and Sunnyvale. 13 people died and more than 2,000 homes were destroyed in the storm.

The training this week taught law enforcement officers how to respond when a storm causes fatalities, rescue situations, and communication challenges. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said leaders aren't considering "if" severe weather will hit, but "when" it will hit.

"THIS IS A VERY REAL PROBLEM."

"We are at the tail end of tornado alley," said Judge Jenkins. "In my time as judge we have seen emergency operations numerous times, more time then I can count at the moment, where there has been loss of life. This is a very real problem," said Jenkins.

Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Denton County, and several other local areas were all represented at the training session.
