ABOUT

My name is Mary Kate Carson, and I am a multimedia producer. I am a hardworking, driven, and passionate individual who is excited about all the opportunities within the media world.

My skills include creative writing, design, public speaking, team building and leadership, video production, and working under tight deadlines.

I am a Writer and Associate News Producer at KDFW Fox 4 News in Dallas, Texas. KDFW serves the entire Dallas/Fort Worth Area, covering severe weather, crime, local and state politics, and a variety of community engagement stories. As an Associate Producer I write stories for broadcasts and online platforms, help develop nightly shows, communicate with field crews and assignment desks, and maintain online content.

Before moving to North Texas I spent two years with WSBT 22, the CBS/Fox affiliate in South Bend, Indiana. I started by working in every corner of the newsroom. I produced newscasts, covered stories with reporters and photographers, and worked closely with production staff members. As a Weekend and Floating News Producer, I selected and organized the order of stories and newscast elements to create engaging, entertaining, and informative shows. After a year at WSBT 22 I was promoted to produce the 7AM morning newscast. I shared local, regional, national, consumer, and trending stories with viewers each day. I also acted as a leader and liaison for news team members, including reporters, anchors, and directors. I also worked as an assignment manager for the overnight hours.

I graduated from the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in the Fall of 2016. I have a Bachelor degree in Journalism, with a Broadcast emphasis, and a Bachelor degree in Communication. As a student, I worked with UATV News as a reporter, anchor, director, and producer. I learned to shoot and edit video, build and design newscast rundowns, news writing, live reporting and working on-and-off camera in the studio. My senior year, I accepted a student television award from the NATAS Mid America Chapter, on behalf of the entire UATV team.

At UATV, I served on the station's Senior Leadership team, and as a Digital Media Coordinator. In this position, I completely rebranded our online media presence by creating new social media outlets, and doubling followers on existing ones. I pioneered a new way to publicize our news using innovative video editing and design.

In college, I worked as a student assistant with the Razorback Sports Network. Our team worked with the SEC Network and ESPN to broadcast live Razorback Sporting Events, manage the Razorback sports website and social media accounts, and develop fan involvement events during games.

I built advertising, sales, and graphic/video design skills working with the University of Arkansas Housing marketing department. Our goal was to encourage upperclassmen to continue living on campus, using campus and online advertisements. We also developed new ways to showcase the various residence halls.

I learned creative video editing and design while working at a non-profit summer camp, working as a camp counselor and media team member. We used video and photography to document events and keep parents updated on their child's activities. We also created end-of-the-week videos to send home with campers, so they would remember their fun time.

I love working with people, sharing their stories, and informing people in the community. Media gives me a platform to enrich lives, and I'm excited to continue growing in this field.
